Sun Tzu and the Art of Bathroom Wars
Of late, we have watched the first skirmishes between common sense laws protecting children and the federal government’s ever broadening Title IX regime. Obama’s offensive strategy is prudent given his superior strength; he seems to be reading right out of Sun Tzu’s playbook when it states “if we are able thus to attack an inferior force with a superior one, our opponents will be in dire straits.” (Book VI: 15) However, one would hope that acting unilaterally to deny biological sex proves to be foolish even for the federal Goliath.
It started when North Carolina passed a law affirming that boys are boys and girls are girls, and, as such, those of opposite sex should not be forced to share bathrooms and locker rooms. The Obama regime issued an ultimatum that North Carolina would lose school funding if it kept the law. Goliath’s corporate cronies were involved as well threatening to boycott North Carolina. With the choice to capitulate or be stripped of funding for education, North Carolina sued the federal government and, not surprisingly, the federal government counter-sued. Pursuing in the attack, the federal government issued a national mandate forcing all schools to “allow students of either biological sex to use the showers, locker rooms, and restrooms – and stay in the same hotel rooms during field trips – designated for the opposite sex or risk losing federal funding.”1 It seems Obama’s regime is following closely Sun Tzu’s maxim “standing on the defensive indicates insufficient strength; attacking, a superabundance of strength.” (Book IV: 6)
What does this aggressive tyrannical move mean for us? For one, we must strongly resist Obama’s attack and state governments need to remain united against his onslaught for he will seek to isolate those who stand for common sense and the natural law from the rest of society. Sun Tzu’s “form a single united body, while the enemy must split up into fractions” (Book VI:14) comes to mind.
But since we know not all states will resist and in fact will gleefully join his forces, how do we escape the clutches of the powerful forces at work? We must, at the very least, retain a significant number of states who are willing to resist Obama. Thirty or more would be good; less than ten would likely be mortal. Unfortunately, such a unified resistance would only be effective until the eventual Supreme Court case that would, yet again, overturn common sense laws for being in accord with nature. Until that dreaded day, we should adhere to the maxim “on hemmed-in ground, resort to stratagem. On desperate ground, fight” (Book XI: 14) for I believe we are indeed in desperate times.
